Earth Day & Faith

Earth Day was set up as a reminder that people have damaged the earth and we need to correct that damage before it is to late to save us all from destruction.

Stewardship of the earth is also one of our faith issues as we contemplate our relationship with God and all that has been placed in our care and keeping.

People use to say which is more important the environment or the economy? Well it turns out that if you don't take care of the environment the economy will suffer. If we allow the greed of a few people to make short term wealth at the expense of the earth then the long term cost will cause suffering for all of us.

Let us all green up the earth on "Earth Day" and live longer.

Don't Mess With Old People

George Phillips age 82 of Meridian, Mississippi was going up to bed, when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turn off the light, but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things.

He phoned the police, who asked 'Is someone in your house?' He said 'No.' Then they said 'All patrols were busy. You should lock your doors and an officer will be along when one is available.' George said, 'Okay'.

He hung up the phone and counted to 30. Then he phoned the police again. 'Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I just shot them.' and hung up.

Within five minutes, six Police Cars, a SWAT Team, a Helicopter, two Fire Trucks, a Paramedic, and an Ambulance showed up at the Phillips' residence, and caught the burglars red-handed. One of the Policemen said to George, 'I thought you said that you shot them!'

George said, 'I thought you said there was nobody available!' (True Story)

I LOVE IT! Don't mess with old people!

Fast and Faster???

Driving through the mountains a sign read, "Fastest Scenic Route" and I just had to laugh out loud!

We are all in such a rush that we seldom take time to enjoy the world around us as a gift from God. Everything has to be an instant pleasure and gone just as fast. Tourist flock in to a famous scene snap a few picture and fly off to the next scene. Later they glance at t heir photos before filing them away never to be viewed again.

We live so fast that we become exhausted and discouraged and our lives seems to have no meaning. Many of our relationships lack depth because we do not invest enough time in them. The real key to getting the most out of life is found in psalm 46:10 ---

"Be still, and know that I am God."

In our demanding and hectic lives, that idea can be lost in the midst of the hustle.  Understanding it is crucial if we are to really live as we were meant to. Take time to stop and listen to all that surrounds you. Be totally still for even a short time and feel the presence of the Holy Spirit who is already with you and waiting.
