Taken from Misquoting Jesus by Bart D. Ehrman
These are verses that are not in the earliest copies of these books:

3.
John 8:11  “Neither do I condem you. Go and sin no more.”
4.
Luke 22:44   ”In his anguish Jesus began to pray more earnestly and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling to the ground.”
5.
Mark 16:17  “These signs will accompany those who believe in my name they will cast out demons and they will speak with new tongues.”
6.
Mark 16:18   “And they will take up snakes in their hands, and if they drink any poison it will not har, and they will lay their hand on the sick and they will become well.”
7.
Luke 22:20   “And in the same way after supper Jesus took the cup and said, ‘This cup is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.”
8.
John 5:4  “For an angel of the Lord went dow at certain times into the pool and disturbed the waters:”
9.

  1. This raises the question in my mind and perhaps you can clarify (I, having not read the book). Were these verses present in source-texts but omitted from early canonical editions, or were they absent in source-texts but adapted from non-canonical sources (or out of whole cloth) via editorial license?

  2. These are very good questions. All we can say for sure is that they are not found in the earliest manuscripts that we have. These text predate the "Cannon" and are free standing archaeological discoveries.

The "source-text" have not existed for a very long time or t hey remain undiscovered.

Always happy to answer your questions.
